Dream To The Last Day

SpiritualFitness

Spiritual fitness and emotional fitness often go hand in hand. “Spirituality” isn’t necessarily referring to one image of God. Spirituality is anything you want it to mean—it’s the part of you that feels a special connection to a higher power working within you or in the universe at large. If you were to strip away all the parts of you that are material and “in the flesh,” you’d be left with your spirit. What does it want? What does it say to you on a daily basis?

  • Often, when we make big decisions in our lives—I want to climb Mt. Everest, I want to be a doctor in an underserved area, I want to start a school in South America, I want to write the great American novel, I want to start a company that helps transplant patients and organ donors connect faster, etc.—what’s really talking is our soul, our spirit. It’s the genesis from which all our passions, dreams, and goals originate.
  • When we find ourselves unhappy, unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and essentially lost, what we’re really experiencing is a disconnect between our spirituality and the other parts to us. This is when it’s critical to stop and reflect on what could be causing that disconnect. Are we not paying attention to what our spirit is asking—the part of us that’s intangible and yet so vital to the feeling of being alive?
  • When you admire the most vibrant individuals later in life, odds are they have a sparkling, infectious spirit. They know exactly who they are, what they want to be and become, where they have been, and where they want to go. They don’t let fear, defeat, misfortune, or circumstances get in the way. They forge on with strength in spirit and brave past any stumbling blocks.
  • So how do you build and maintain a strong spirit? By keeping that inner, intangible part of you fully engaged. Listen to what you want deep down and hear the feedback. When you let your mind wander and imagine those big dreams, open your heart up to what bubbles up from the most sacred part of your self.
  • Tapping your spiritual self can happen in several settings, whether you’re alone or amongst friends and community members. From Church and other houses of God to the comforts of a favorite chair in your house or garden where you go to think, meditate, or pray, getting in tough with your spirituality is key to overall fitness. It gives us reassurance that we can be and do anything. It fills us with strength and fortitude. And it gives is higher meanings for living life to the fullest.
